Groove keep playoff hopes alive with win over Steam

Fuqua scores 26 for Groove, 37 by Gaines not enough for Gateway

St. Louis, MO- The Windy City Groove defeated the Gateway Steam in a Sunday matinee 114-102 at the St. Charles Family Arena.  The Groove were led by double digit point game from 4 players, including Deveon Jenkins, Shedrick Haynes, Nate Fuqua, and Lavante Douglas.  Both Douglas and Fuqua recorded over 20 points, with 25 and 26 respectively. Deveon Jenkins recorded 19 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds for the Groove. 

The Gateway Steam were led by Tarvin Gaines, who led all scorers with 37 points on 13 of 28 shooting.  He also led the game in rebounding with 14 to go along with 3 assists.  Big men Anthony Borden and Will Kirksey each had 11 points and a combined 8 rebounds.  Brandon Goss and Terrell Williams recorded 12 and 13 points for the Steam. The Steam as a team were only 2 of 17 from the 3 point arc and 43 percent from the field.

The Groove keep their playoff hopes alive with the big win today and the Steam are clinging to the 4 seed with 2 games left, both against the RiverSharks.  The Steam’s next game is Wednesday April 1st against the St. Louis RiverSharks at Center St. Louis in Affton, MO. Game time is set for 7pm. The next game for the Windy City Groove is this Thursday at the Kroc Center against the Bloomington Flex.  Their game time is set for 7pm.
