Forward earns Player of the Week honors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Champaign Swarm forward Arnold Louis is enjoying international success while playing in Colombia.

The Florida native who played nine games with the Swarm before signing in February with the Bogota Pirates recently earned Player of the Week honors in Colombia’s professional basketball league, Liga DirectTV de Baloncesto. In two games on March 13 and 14, Louis averaged 32.5 points per game and 20.0 rebounds. He set a new season-high for the league with 26 rebounds in one game.

“We’re thrilled Arnold is enjoying success internationally,” Midwest Professional Basketball Association Commissioner Ed Schumer said. “It’s a big goal of our league to help players advance their careers. Arnold was a great member of our league when he was here, and we hope his stock keeps rising.”

Louis is among the Colombian league leaders in several categories, including scoring average (20.8), rebounds (11.4), two-point field goals (65) and steals (20).

With the Swarm, Louis started the first nine games of the season and led the team with 21.4 points per game and 9.4 rounds per contest. He earned Player of the Week honors before his departure.

Louis is one of three MPBA players signed by international leagues this season, joining Brandon Hogg and Kenny Williams of the St. Louis RiverSharks.
