St. Charles, MO – In the second game of doubleheader MPBA action at Family Arena, the host Gateway Steam defeated the Chicago Force 115-103 to even their record at 1-1 after dropping the season opener Friday against the St. Louis RiverSharks.  The Force fell to 0-1.

Brandon McGill and Jonathan Miller each scored 23 points apiece to the lead the way for the Steam.  McGill connected on six of nine shots from the field, while also hitting 11 of 12 free throws.  Miller made seven of nine shots while also pulling down five rebounds.  As a team, the Steam shot 48% from the field, connecting on 38 of 78 shots.

Chad Fortenberry led the Steam in rebounds with nine, and also scored 13 points, joining McGill, Miller, Terrell Williams, and Mike Gills in double figures for the Steam.  The Steam also got to the free throw line 47 times compared to only 27 times for the Force.

Jarob McCullum led the Force with 23 points.  Derrick McDonald was Chicago's leading rebounder with 13, while Darius Smith led the team in assists with seven.

Of particular note was the 3-point field goal defense of the Steam, which allowed only 2 of 24 Force attempts from long distance to go down.

The Steam are next in action next Saturday night in Chicago against the Windy City Groove in a twin-bill that will immediately follow the Force’s next game against the RiverSharks.
