Handy Johnson is a professional basketball coach and consultant with more than a dozen years working in basketball operations and management. Johnson earned All-State honors in Illinois as a high school player before going to Southeastern Community College in Burlington, IA, where he played for legendary coach Charlie Spoonhour. After earning second-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors, Johnson transferred to the University of Nebraska, and then to Southwest Missouri State, where he again played for Spoonhour. Following his collegiate career, Johnson spent four years overseas in Belgium, Holland, Mexico and Portugal. In 2007, Johnson founded Back 2 Basics, established to provide inner-city and suburban youth with constructive recreation, physical and leadership training, and basketball skills development.
