#3 - Justin Bocot (nickname: Jayz) should already be familiar to basketball fans in Central Illinois. Bocot starred at Bloomington High School, leading the Purple Raiders to a Class AA Super-Sectional appearance as a junior and being named an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association 3rd Team All-State player as a senior, when he averaged 20 points per game and was named the Pantagraph Player of the Year.
Bocot graduated from BHS in 2007, and attended Southern Illinois University, staying in the Missouri Valley Conference and playing against close-to-home rivals Bradley and Illinois State. In his first season of action at Southern, Bocot started the last nine games of the season and scored a career-high 28 points during that stretch. Bocot was named the Valley’s Newcomer of the Week just five days after making his first start, and earned postseason honors on the Valley All-Bench Team.
Following the 2011 season, Bocot played for Reach USA on cultural exchange trip to China, along with other college all-stars. During the 9-game tour, Bocot averaged 12 points per game playing alongside teammates from schools such as Indiana and Kentucky, which he calls his best personal basketball highlight. The team won six of the nine games on the trip.
Bocot’s favorite current basketball player is LeBron James, but his all-time favorite is Michael Jordan. His favorite movie is Love & Basketball, while his favorite television show is The First 48. His favorite musical artist is Drake, and he most loves to eat fish and spaghetti.
