ST. LOUIS – The Midwest Professional Basketball Association has sent another player overseas, as David Atkinson has signed with Club Baloncesto Utrera CBU in Spain.

Atkinson played in 13 games for the Lima Express in 2016, starting eight. He averaged 6.8 points per game on 63% field goal shooting. The 6’8” forward from Salem International University also averaged 3.3 rebounds per contest.

“David came to us with a solid base of skills,” said Mark Anderson, head coach of the Express. “Over the course of the season he really worked at becoming a versatile player with the ability to play on the wing and in the post. He is very coachable, and we wish him the best in Spain.”

Atkinson is the second player to recently sign in Spain after playing in the MPBA. Pontiac’s Blake Burgess joined CB Cellera on September 18.

Atkinson is the 52nd player to advance from the MPBA since the league began play in January of 2015, and the 13th to move on from the Express in the last three years.
