Athletic guard to take on top Portuguese league

August 13, 2016

The top league in Portugal is the latest landing place for a Midwest Professional Basketball Association player.

Alex Marzette of the Pontiac 66ers has signed with CAB Madeira of Liga Portuguesa de Basquetbol.

Marzette averaged 19.7 points per game on 54.3% shooting for the 2016 MPBA runners-up. He also pulled down 7.1 rebounds per game.

“He can jump out of the gym,” said Mark Myre, general manager for the Pontiac 66ers. “His work ethic is second to none--he’s a great kid on and off the floor."

Marzette’s signing comes days after the Chicago Blues’ Diante Watkins and the Gateway Steam’s Connell Crossland both signed in Germany.

Marzette’s signing in Portugal marks the 47th advancement into a foreign league or the NBA D-League since the MPBA began play in January of 2015.
