Team featured three MPBA connections battling for $2 million prize

August 2, 2016

ST. LOUIS – Always A Brave, a team comprised of Bradley University alumni and featuring several prominent Midwest Professional Basketball Association connections, could not overcome a tough Team Colorado at Fordham University in New York City Saturday in the semi-finals of The Basketball Tournament, a $2 million winner-take-all tournament comprised of teams from all around the U.S.

Always A Brave featured MPBA Associate Commissioner/Director of Basketball Personnel A. J. Guyton as head coach. Daniel Ruffin, the 2016 head coach of the Champaign Swarm, was the team’s starting point guard. And forward Matt Salley was an all-MPBA second team selection in 2015.

The ninth-seeded Always A Brave made its Cinderella run ten years after Ruffin led Bradley to an improbably appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.

Team Colorado will face defending champions Overseas Elite Tuesday in New York. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
