ST. LOUIS – The Midwest Professional Basketball Association has determined that the final :36.4 of Friday’s game between the St. Louis RiverSharks and Windy City Groove will be replayed due to a scoring error that resulted in a player remaining in the game after receiving a sixth foul, and subsequently scoring a pair of game-winning free throws a few moments later.

Windy City’s Deveon Jenkins committed a foul with 55.9 seconds to play in the game with the Groove ahead 109-108. Two unofficial scorers had the foul as Jenkins’ sixth, and the game public address announcer announced the foul as his sixth and Jenkins began to leave the floor. However, the official score book had the foul as Jenkins’ fifth and he was told he could remain in the game.

St. Louis’ Bruce Massey, as a result of the Jenkins foul, connected on two free throws to put the RiverSharks up 110-109.  The two teams then traded three-point plays, and the RiverSharks led 113-112 with :36.4 remaining.

Then, with 13.8 seconds to play, Jenkins was fouled and shot two free throws to give the Groove the 114-113 win.

A video review of the game confirmed Jenkins had six fouls, committing one in the second quarter and five in the fourth. The error may have occurred with the Groove up 102-100—Jenkins committed fouls on successive plays: an offensive foul with 3:21 remaining and a loose ball foul on the ensuing RiverSharks possession.

“It was an unfair ending,” said Associate Commissioner Craig Fata, who was in attendance and had Jenkins for six fouls on his score sheet. “It was an honest error by league officials, and we have to give both teams a fair opportunity to finish the game under the proper circumstances. It’s important we get it right.”

The RiverSharks and Groove are scheduled to play on Friday, March 25 in St. Louis. The replay of the final :36.4 will occur prior to the start of the 4:05 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
