CHICAGO – The Windy City Groove regained a share of first place in the Midwest Professional Basketball Association with a 114-113 win over the St. Louis RiverSharks Friday at Kroc Center.

The win gives the Groove a 9-4 record, good enough to tie the Pontiac 66ers at the top of the standings.  St. Louis fell to 6-5, a full game behind the third-place Chicago Blues (7-4).

St. Louis jumped out to an 8-0 lead as the Groove did not score their first basket until the 7:14 mark of the first quarter.  The RiverSharks extended the lead to ten at 15-5 before the Groove got to within two at the end of the period at 20-18.

Mike McCall gave the Groove their first lead of the game with 10:24 to play in the second quarter at 23-21, and Windy City was able to take that two-point lead into halftime at 49-47.

Windy City exploded for 35 points in the third quarter and took an 84-71 lead into the fourth.

The Groove opened up a 90-73 lead on a Sean Dockery basket with 10:42 to play, but a 24-6 run by the RiverSharks put them back on top at 97-96 with 4:50 remaining.

The teams traded baskets and the lead down the stretch. A Bruce Massey three-point play gave the RiverSharks a 113-112 lead with :36.4 to play, but Deveon Jenkins knocked down a pair of free throws with :13.8 left to win the game for Windy City, as St. Louis could not score as time expired.
