Pontiac thumps Champaign, moves closer to first

Alex Marzette notches double-double for 66ers

PONTIAC, Illinois – The Pontiac 66ers moved within half a game of first place Sunday, with a convincing 119-97 win over the Champaign Swarm in Midwest Professional Basketball Association play at Pontiac High School.

Pontiac (8-4) outscored the Swarm 28-18 in the first quarter before Champaign (3-9) came back to tie the game at 45 late in the second.  The 66ers finished the half on a 7-1 run to take a 52-46 lead into the locker room.

Pontiac continued its consistency in the second half, outscoring the Swarm 36-25 in the third and 31-26 in the fourth.

Alex Marzette led the 66ers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Alfonzo Houston added 20.  Trent Thomas, Marcus Hammonds, Kyle Anderson and Blake Burgess all scored in double figures for Pontiac.

James McClain paced Champaign with 17 points, while Jordan Walker, Robert Broughton, Jonathan Mills and Aaron Weaver each scored in double figures for the Swarm.
