The Gateway Steam have released forward/center Jayvonte Hughes following his actions during the team’s game Sunday against the Pontiac 66ers in St. Louis.
Hughes received two technical fouls and was ejected with 7:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, with Gateway trailing Pontiac by two. Hughes’ second technical foul was under review by league staff, and league officials were expected to issue a multi-game suspension.
“We appreciate the proactive measures taken by Gateway coach Milton Stith in releasing Mr. Hughes,” said C. Edward “Ed” Schumer, commissioner of the Midwest Professional Basketball Association. “His actions were unacceptable, and should he try to return to the league, a suspension will have to be served before he is allowed to play.”
