CHICAGO – The Chicago Blues used 14 straight second-quarter points from Tremell Adams to pull away from the Gateway Steam and move their record to within a game of .500, after a 121-110 win at the Kroc Center Friday.

Gateway jumped out to a 10-4 first-quarter lead, prompting Blues coach Rick Pryor to call timeout.  Following the stoppage, the Blues evened the score at 18 with 3:19 to play in the quarter, and took a 28-27 lead into the second quarter.

That’s when Adams struck.

With the Blues up 37-31 8:52 to play in the second, Adams hit four consecutive three-pointers and a layup over the next 1:26 to balloon the lead to 51-36.  Adams would finish the half with 19 points on 5-of-6 three-point shooting, and his team up 67-52.

Gateway would cut the lead to nine at the 8:18 mark of the third on a basket by Terrell Williams, but the Blues pushed the lead back to 15, and then closed out the quarter up 96-78.

Chicago extended the lead to 23 in the fourth before Gateway made a run and cut the lead to twelve with 5:10 to play on a pair of Lonnel Johnson free throws.  The Blues, however, answered with a run of their own and put the game out of reach on a Sherron Collins 30-footer that pushed the lead back to 20 at 117-97.

Adams finished with 21 for Chicago (2-3), while Ryan Jackson added 20, and Al Rapier had 18 points and eleven rebounds.  Sherron Collins and Chris Elder also scored in double figures for the Blues.

Connell Crossland led Gateway (0-3) with 23 points.  Bryant Allen, Nicholas Reed, and Terrell Williams also scored in double figures.
